Named after a passage from a Robert Heinlein novel called Time Enough for Love. The statement was meant as a outline for becoming a human being, it was never to be the complete guide. Just as a pilot license doesn't qualify you to drive the space shuttle. Do More Things That Make You Forget To Check Your Phone
Get Thee To A PROJECT APPLESEEDTM Summer '17
In today’s world of 24-hour news cycles, changing technologies, and push-button gratification, it’s a challenge to stay connected to the values that our great country was built on. Ideals like integrity, commitment, and personal responsibility are what our founding fathers relied on to win our independence and to then make America a great nation. At Project Appleseed™, we’re dedicated to keeping these timeless values alive. We promote civic responsibility through the teaching of colonial history and the American tradition of rifle marksmanship. Even after all of these years, there is much to be learned from our forefathers’ examples of perseverance, commitment, and civic virtue. With a full calendar of shooting clinics and events, Project Appleseed is here to make sure these timeless principles live on for generations to come.

Doing my Duty
Exercised my franchise in yesterdays Florida primary. It is the first time in my adult life that I had no enthusiasm for doing the task. Indeed, it is the first time that I viewed it as a task at all.
I guess my best description of voting at this point in our history would be, Doing my Duty.
Duty to God, to use every opportunity to make peaceful change.
Duty to family, to set an example of what a law respecting citizen in a republic is to do.
Duty to country, to respect and honor the sacrifices of so many that give me option of peaceful change under a set of just laws to be administered equally to all.
Jefferson stated "“In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.”
I believe the nation is "hell and gone " from style issues and we are on the rocks.
The rock of God.
The rock of family.
The rock of country.
I am past the point of compromise.
I will not renounce God
I will not abandon my family to tyranny.
I will not live as a slave to man or government.
I will resist.

II Duce
In 1922 the Italians elected a populist leader of questioned values who
could make jobs, give the money worth again, restore the military, fix
the government and make the railroads run on time.
By 1925 he had fixed most of the problems he was elected to fix. He also terminated a free press, eliminated most government elections for high office and mandated 1 Party Rule.
Be Careful of What You Ask For.

Liberty Teaching Rifle LTR or Family Teaching Rifle
The object of this build was to make a lithe, light weight rifle, to use for teaching marksmanship skills with Florida Project Appleseed. The rifle had to be able to be used effectively by students young or old and small or large. The rifle had to be able to be quickly configured for the shooters body geometry and sighting preferences (irons, scope or dot)
I've built a few Liberty Teaching Rifles (LTR) for myself and for other friends specifically for their build and shooting style. But this rifle is different, it wasn't designed to be a perfect fit for everyone, but a better than stock fit for anyone. Another thing was that the rifle had to be kept as close to stock as possible. Project Appleseed is built around the premise of the 4moa Rifleman. A person using a good stock rifle with good standard ammunition and a GI Sling will be adequate to engage a 4 moa target at 500 yards, the traditional 'Rifleman's Quarter Mile'.
The rifle had to be kept mechanically as close to stock as possible. This would reinforce the 'shooter skill', 4moa Rifleman concept of Appleseed over the Hollywood/Advertiser brainwashing, $$$ equal hits, version of marksmanship.
The base was a Ruger 10/22 birch stock 50th Anniversary Model with an 18in barrel. cost $180
Four reasons for this choice.
1st It's is the most common rifle at an Appleseed.
2nd It is the Chevy 350 of the rifle world, parts are cheap and readily available.
3rd Reliable - Rugers and Marlins are rifles that will work all weekend (500rounds) without cleaning.
4th Ease of cleaning (1 screw).
As an Appleseed Instructor many times I'll get home after 2 days of teaching marksmanship with 4 filthy, wet, sand covered rifles to clean and I didn't get to shoot one round. Ruger 10/22s and Remington 597s are easy to completely strip down to the individual components. The Marlins, not so much, so it was eliminated from my considerations. The Remingtons were eliminated because in my experience they wont constantly go the full weekend with out cleaning. (YMMV)
Modification to the Ruger (Remember the object is to keep as stock as possible)
Trigger & Bolt Group
The stock trigger was as about as bad as I've ever had on a Ruger gritty, creepy and broke well past the 8lbs that my trigger Gage reads to.
Cleaned and stripped the components.
I polished the trigger spring strut ball end, which had a rather sharp edge to it.
I also modified the lawyer designed bolt lock/release and did modify with a dremal/fine diamond file for one handed operation. For instructions go to
( http://www.instructables.com/id/Ruger-1022-DIY-Auto-Bolt-Release/?ALLSTEPS ).
Then I cleaned the pins and metal parts (not springs), gave them a light coat of Miltech-1 then baked at 150 in the oven for 30min. Applied a second coat while still warm and repeated.
The rest just a good clean and light lube with CLP.
Results Trigger break 4 3/4lbs, 85% of the creep gone with a fairly decent break. At a minimum this is what it should have been shipped with from Ruger. Cost 0$ + time
Next installed a drifted the front sight out and installed a TechSight front with longer National Match post (#TRS210) (Blue Loctight all sight screws) Cost 22$ = time
Followed by installing a UTG Ruger 10/22 (MNT-22TOWL) scope rail (I did not use the supplied Ruger rail mainly to get more for/aft adjustability for proper scope eye relief) Cost 10$ + time
I'm still waiting for the UTG Sub-compact adjustable Rear Sight (MNT-910) (locks to scope rail) Cost 25$
(see **Addendum** below)
I also added a NCstar Comp/Flash hider but not for the usual reasons.
I put them on 1st to keep out a possible bore obstruction, 2nd to protect the muzzle crown and 3rd this particular break doesn't have any ports pointing to the ground. Helps keep the dust and sand down.
(don't forget to Blue Loctight it) Cost 10$ + time
Appleseed shoots a lot from the prone position and many times our firing lines are on the dirt. The new shooters are concentration on rifle operation, proper sling use and steady hold factors sometimes lose a little muzzle awareness and go what we call 'Worm Diggin', with the barrel. The comp helps to prevent a muzzle obstruction and a "bad Thing".
STOCK ASSEMBLY
I've used a lot of different 10/22 replacement stocks and ended choosing the Blackhawk KNOXX AXIOM R/F Ruger 10/22 Stock in color tan.
(black stocks get HOT in Aug in Florida on an uncovered firing line - a new shooter will not get good cheek weld on a stock if it is the temp of the Sun) Minor cheek weld adjustment are handled with pipe insulation and vet wrap.
1 Screw Disassembly (like stock 10/22) for cleaning
Light Weight
Free Floated Barrel Assembly
Sling swivel mounts factory installed
Smallest diameter pistol grip (easier for smaller hands to grip)
Pistol grip close to trigger, easier to achieve a good C-shaped trigger position
Stock Length of Pull (LOP) 9 3/4 in - 13 1/2 and just by slipping on a M-4 butt you can increase this to 14 1/4 inch and add a GI rubber recoil pad you' re up to 14 3/4 inch LOP. With that kind of range you can fit just about any size humanoid.
Added to stock A pair of TALON 1 1/4 swivels the one piece style Cost 10$
Finally a M1/M14 GI canvas sling Cost 15$
The Blackhawk - KNOXX AXIOM 10/22 Adjustable Stock Cost 65$
So for right around 300$ you get a very adjustable LIBERTY TEACHING RIFLE to help you teach the next generation of shooters both young and old.
******ADDENDUM******
Finally recived the UTG Sight it looks to be very durable and does work with my TechSight Ft Sight. It does not have "click" style adjustments of the TechSights but the adjustment mechanism works well. I will post the adj = moa when I get a chance to give it a thorough range session.
*******ADDENDUM to ADDENDUM ********
The Weaver/Picatinny friendly UTG Micro-Sights work great with the TechSights target Front sight
(Item #TSR210 - Front Sight Tower Assembly for Ruger - Steel
* Replacement Front Tower Assembly for TSR200. This includes the base, extended target post
(.050 inches taller than standard post) spring & detent, and mounting hardware. )
This was the first 3 rounds out-of-the-box for the UTG sight. For you Appleseeders use the TechSight chart for front elevation. The UTG Mini Sight works out to about 1.33 MOA per rear mark Up and Down. YMMV depending on the distance between your particular sight set-up.
After ascertaining the adjustments, the next 5 were top of the black. This was acceptable as the indoor range I was using only went out to 20 yards, not the usual Appleseed 25 meters. Shots 6 and 7 were just to verify the 1.33MOA adjustment for the elevation of the rear sight.
You might have noticed the removable cheek pad. Smaller faces are a tad low for good cheek weld. It's made from 1/2 black pipe insulation ($1.50 for 10ft at Lowes/Home Depot) and Camo Gorrilla Tape. Cut to length, split down the middle and cover with the duct tape. Easy On, Easy Off, the duct tape adds stiffness to the pad and holds it in position. It usable on many rifle stocks.
Please feel free to add questions or comments. I've had quite a few students ask about a flexible Family Teaching Rifle and would appreciate your ideas ( to steal ;) ).

Kel-Tec CMR-30 Carbine
With Kel-Tec coming out with a host of new and very cool Bullpup centerfire rifles I hadn't paid much attention to the new rimfire offering, the CMR30.
That was a huge mistake on my part. The little carbine is a stellar little rifle and performs at a level completely different that what your mind thinks it should. The only allegory I can come up with is "Spud" Webb of the NBA ,only 5'7", 12 years NBA Pro and the Slam Dunk Champion in '86. Like I said the 22mag in a small rifle platform performs far beyond expectations.
Zero recoil, flat shooting, hard hitting, compact, lite weight and laser beam accurate. The ergonomics are great and it has the only wire stock that allows for a good cheek weld.
It fits into such a tiny space and is so handy use your imagination, PDW sure, Saddle Rifle, Truck rifle, Motorcycle Rifle, Plinker, Varmint Rifle no problem.
Kel-Tec has hit a home run with this one.

Half a glass of warm spit
My Grandfather Alvin R. Westmoreland, told me
that the " Democrats and the Republicans fight over a half a glass of
warm spit. One side wining that the glass is half empty, the other
bragging the glass is half full, but both sides fully intend for YOU to
Drink It."

Sheeple
At sometime today you will read or see something about the Government of
The United States that pisses you off. Just the same as you saw
yesterday and you will see tomorrow.
Bad things are not just coming, they are here and the best most of you can muster is a "share" on f-book, scathing but witty email or bitch about it to your spouse.
Volunteer for a cause and put some real time and money into it. Make a difference to someone other than yourself, be real Men or Women. Get yourself, ASAP, on someone's "Naughty or Nice" list and stand up for what you claim to believe in.
Life is short for all of us even in the best of times and the good/bad we do lives long after us. But doing nothing, meekly living but for yourself, is the worst waste of a soul imaginable. That kind of non-life, being a useful idiot, is precisely the person that makes a world safe for Despots and Tyrants.

I
wonder how huge of a DC mob President Obama will send to the funeral of,

Gun's Save Lives
Yesterday morning a man, a neighbor, had a episode at my
house. He was disoriented and seemed psychotic ( I do not know the cause ), wearing
just socks and shorts ,and was insisting that my house was his house. I locked
myself in my truck and called 911. I took some video on the phone of his action
and a couple photos to give to law enforcement when they arrived. During this
time he arranged the furniture on my front porch, relaxed on the porch swing
and then he decided to enter his (my) house. I took my 9mm revolver, put it in my back pocket, and went in to my home. I was able to talk and shoo him out of the
house, without using or showing my pistol, back onto the front yard. He had not
been aggressive to this point, just confused and delusional, till now.
This is when he noticed his family loaded up and ready to go
somewhere in my truck (no one was there). He proceeded to get into my running truck.
I made up my mind that this sick person was not going to drive off in my vehicle
and kill someone with it. I asked, then ordered, him to get out of the truck. He
got out fast and started a confrontation with me. (I believe in his mental
state thought he was protecting his imagined
family) I'm a big guy and he is a bigger, younger guy, my size did not deter
him and I was retreating. It was only then, when I drew down in him with my
revolver he stopped. The man , even in his diminished state of mind recognized
the danger he stated " I don't have a gun" . His body language, vocalization
suggested his displeasure over suddenly unfair fight. I replied to him "I don't
care". This revelation took the
wind out of his sails, and mulled over the change in situation. He then complied
with my order to sit cross-legged on the yard to wait for law enforcement. I
retreated to a safe distance and holstered my weapon.
During this time he asked me several times "don't you
see my family" , I shook my head and said "No".
It took around 20 min for the Sherriff Department to arrive
from the end of my 911 call.(I live less than a block from the Tampa city limits)
This incident will never make the TV, Radio or Newspaper because
it does not track with the slant that "All Guns Bad" and citizens
with guns can't restrain themselves with personal weapons. This had all the
markers of tragedy, but it didn't happen because of the gun. Think of all the possible action that might
have happened, all ended by the presence of a gun. Remember it happened to me yesterday. What might
happen to you tomorrow.

Block Al Jazeera America.
Block Al Jazeera America.
Everyone of you has the ability to block channels on your cable system and your box is hooked to the phone or internet, The box report's on you watch. So send a message to the cable company that we don't need that fecal matter. For good measure drop a dime and tell a human you blocked the channel too.
It was bad enough when it was Current TV, but at least that was Americans expressing their Constitutionally protected opinions, misguided and stupid they were. I'll be damned if I'll even accidentally support that Muslim Terrorist sponsored station, they have absolutely nothing I wish too hear or see.
PS: While your at you can block RT (Russia Today) and CCTV News (China) to.

THE MATT WALSH LETTER
Dear President Obama,
I’m reaching out to you as a friend. I know you must be deeply hurting after what happened at the Missouri State Fair. Sure, you probably try to avoid watching the news while you’re on vacation, but I’m sure the pilot who airlifted your dog to your rental mansion in Martha’s Vineyard probably caught you up to speed (that guy is such a chatterbox). Your jaw must have hit the floor when you heard the news: A rodeo clown in Missouri poked fun at you. Yeah, I know, almost impossible to believe. The gall! The gumption! The racism! Don’t worry, the entire country erupted in outrage, Democrats and Republicans issued statements of condemnation, and now the offending clown has been banned for life from the Missouri State Fair. There will likely be “action taken” against the Missouri Rodeo Clown Association, and I do hope justice is visited upon them swiftly. I think we’re all a little sick of the Missouri Rodeo Clown Association causing trouble. It’s something new every week with those freakin’ guys.
But all of this is of no consolation. The fact is, a rodeo clown in Missouri made fun of you. Nothing can ever ease the pain he has caused. This sort of crass lampooning of public officials has never happened at a rodeo until now, and I know that because a bunch of people who have never been within 150 miles of a rodeo said so. And then — worse still — the crowd erupted in applause at the spectacle of a guy in an Obama mask being chased by a rampaging bull. Racists, the lot of ‘em! I mean, Bush never got this sort of treatment. Nobody ever mocked or satirized him. No crude jokes were told about him. Nobody ever wished violence or death upon him. Ever. You know why? Because he’s white. White presidents always get treated nicely, especially white Republicans. Just ask Lincoln. The whole country agreed for over two centuries that we don’t ever insult presidents, then you get into office and all of a sudden every day is Pick on the President Day. Outrageous!
Besides, you are due some respect. You’ve earned it. You’ve done nothing but serve these people and make their lives better, and this is how they treat you? Ungrateful brats. You should drone bomb these haters. Just kidding. But seriously, you should. You’re the first president in history to actually order the assassination of American citizens, and I say why stop with some Muslim propagandist and his completely innocent son who never committed any crime at all?
I’m especially sick of these punks in the middle class who won’t stop complaining about you. What’s their issue? OK, you haven’t done anything about the unemployment rate your whole time in office, median household incomes have dropped, less businesses are opening, the number of people in poverty has increased while the number of high paying jobs has decreased, all of this while taxes go up and Obamacare looms, threatening to strangle small business owners and put thousands more out of work, but so what? I’ve got two words: Food stamps. Or is it foodstamps? I don’t know, I can’t spell it, I can just use it to get my Lucky Charms and Dr. Pepper. You’ve made all of this “work” crap obsolete by increasing the entitlement state more than any president ever in history! You’re adding more than 11 thousand Americans a day to SNAP. You’ve got millions relying on the government for rent, cable, phone, even birth control. I guess this horrible economy stuff would be kind of a bummer if not for all the delicious welfare. Who needs an economy anymore? We’ve got you, baby.
So how could anyone be upset at you? How could they delight at the degradation and mockery of Barack Obama? What’s wrong with these right wing rednecks? Are they still sore about the whole thing where you sent the IRS after your political opponents to harass and hinder them during an election cycle? Or the stuff about spying on the phone records of every American? What about all this business about you arming and funding Islamic Militants overseas and then orchestrating a coverup when a bunch of them murdered your ambassador? Are folks STILL mad that you funneled weapons to drug cartels and then threatened whistleblowers into silence? Or is it all this fuss over your Justice Department spying on and attempting to prosecute journalists? Is it the wildly unpopular two thousand page health care law? The regulation mandating that religious employers provide abortifacients to their employees? The millions of tax dollars you’ve given to the abortion industry and the blessings you wished upon a group of wealthy abortionists? The bailouts? The green energy scams? The massive expansion of government? The out of control deficit spending? The lies? The broken promises? The betrayals? The corruption? The attacks on our fundamental liberties?
I can’t imagine why anyone would get too worked about any of that. Like you said, that stuff didn’t happen. Or it did, but it’s not a big deal. Or it’s not a big deal because it didn’t. I can’t remember, I just know that you treat anyone who raises any of these concerns with utter contempt and disregard, which clearly proves that they are wrong.
Mr. Obama, IF you WERE actually guilty of being a deceitful despot who murders, conspires, and steals, then obviously all true Americans would have no choice but to giggle with glee at the sight of your likeness being gouged by an angry bull. Fortunately, that isn’t the case, which is why I’d like to apologize on for the entire state of Missouri, for everyone who has ever attended a state fair, and for everyone in the rodeo clown community.
You are still special, and I still love you.
Yours eternally,
Matt Walsh
