John Brown was hanged for treason after his raid on the Harper's Ferry arsenal, and he was not acting in concert with any other organization: he did hope to inspire others to rise in revolt and do as he did. I make no doubt that Hassan would have been pleased if he could bring about a general uprising of Muslim troops in the US armed forces. I'd call that levying war against the United States"
